Calycanthus occidentalis, Western Spicebush

Native to riparian areas throughout the NW coastal ranges, Cascades, and the Sierra Nevada. The large, magnolia-like, dusky red flowers always elicit oohs and aahs! Appreciates afternoon shade in hotter areas; not particular about soil.
